Australia’s pre-eminent sparkling wine producer, House of Arras from Tasmania, has made history winning The KPMG Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show & the Thorp Annual Trophy for Best Sparkling White or Rose at the KPMG Royal Sydney Wine Show for its 2007 House of Arras Grand Vintage.

House of Arras is the only sparkling wine producer to win Best Wine of Show at the KPMG Royal Sydney Wine Show, traditionally won by still red and white wines.

It is the second time in less than a month that the 2007 House of Arras Grand Vintage has won the top award at a capital city wine show after taking out The Courier-Mail Grand Champion Wine of Show at the Royal Queensland Wine Show, another first for sparkling wine.

Joining the 2007 Grand Vintage on the trophy shelf at the Royal Sydney Wine Show is the 2006 House of Arras Blanc de Blancs which has won The Fine Wine Partners Perpetual Trophy, another first for Sparkling Wine. This is following its performance at the 2015 National Wine Show in Canberra Wine show, being awarded the Len Evans Memorial Trophy for Wine of Show.

House of Arras Chief Sparkling Winemaker Ed Carr said it was an absolute honour to receive this recognition from one of the nation’s top wine shows.

These recent awards are testament to the quality of sparkling wine that Tasmania can produce and I believe we are witnessing history here, with sparkling wine achieving the top accolade across the best of each wine style.’ Carr said.

The Sydney Royal Wine Show judging panel consists of the most experienced and respected judges in the industry. It was chaired by Samantha Connew who was joined by Canadian judge Michelle Bouffard to lead the judging contingent.

The Arras Grand Vintage has a complexity of character that follows eight years in tirage. It is a traditional blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, and will retain its freshness and longevity that will improve as it ages.

The Arras Blanc de Blancs expresses the attributes of prestige Tasmanian chardonnay, meticulous winemaking and extensive age on yeast lees.
